PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a gradation correction suitable for an image according to a brightness distribution of the taken image. SOLUTION: When a gradation correction using a tone curve set corresponding to a change to an exposure value is performed to image data taken with an exposure value set lower than an adequate exposure value, a gradation correction whose height is different for each range whose brightness frequency height is different is also performed. When a gradation correction for conversion narrowing a width of a gradation of a high brightness and widening a width of a gradation lower than the gradation of the high brightness in a width of all gradations is performed, the execution of a gradation correction whose height is different for each range whose brightness frequency height is different is restricted.
