PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new 2-(α-hydroxypentyl)benzoate, its production, and pharmaceutical compositions containing its salt as an active ingredient, and to provide a use of the compound for preventing and treating cardiac ischemia, cerebral ischemia and cardiac or cerebral artery obstruction (blockage). SOLUTION: There is provided a composition represented by formula (I), wherein M represents a monovalent metal ion, a bivalent metal ion or an organic base group selected from the group consisting of anilinium, benzyl ammonium, morpholinium and diethyl ammonium, and n is 1 or 2.
