摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an image of high picture quality by a simple optical system by controlling the luminance of light by color, the light in a plurality of colors sequentially emitted from a plurality of light emitting elements, in accordance with the brightness to be achieved in each pixel. SOLUTION: The display device includes a light emitting unit 2 having a plurality of light emitting elements 32, 34, 36 embedded in a recessed portion corresponding to a pixel. The recessed portion is formed of a light-shielding film 20. The plurality of light emitting elements 32, 34, 36 correspond to three primary colors of R, G, B and are cyclically lit at a speed exceeding the time resolution of human vision. A liquid crystal panel 10 controls the transmittance for the light by pixel from the light emitting unit 2 by changing the alignment of liquid crystal molecules. An image is generated by controlling the transmittance for light of plurality of colors by color, the light sequentially emitted from each recessed portion, in accordance with the brightness to be achieved in each pixel.
