The method involves detecting an output voltage of a vehicle generator. The detected output voltage is compared with a reference output voltage of a vehicle generator, where the reference output voltage is obtained during a recuperation phase. Power of an electrical vehicle energy consumer is reduced so as to increase the output voltage of the vehicle generator based on the result of comparison, where the vehicle generator is loaded by the electrical vehicle energy consumer. The consumer is selected from several electrical vehicle energy consumers based on a criterion. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a vehicle control device comprising a detection device (2) a computer program with a program code for performing a method for increasing output voltage of a vehicle generator of a vehicle during recuperation phase.
