<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that when a cartridge is inserted into an insertion device body, great force is required to insert the cartridge due to the elastic forces of both electric contact portions. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a door for uncovering/covering an opening in which the cartridge is loaded, and a lifting/lowering mechanism that lifts/lowers the cartridge in conjunction with the lifting/lowering operation of the door. The cartridge moves between the first and second positions in conjunction with the lifting/lowering operation. In addition, a recess is formed at the side of the contact portion of the cartridge. In the second position, the electric contact portion of the body is located in the recess, thereby separating the contact portions.
