PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive an area sensor at high speed without causing trouble due to disconnection. SOLUTION: The area sensor includes: a pixel group where a plurality of pixels each having a thin-film transistor and a photoelectric conversion element connected to a drain electrode or source electrode of the thin-film transistor are two-dimensionally arranged; a gate line connected in common to the gates of the thin-film transistors corresponding to the plurality of pixels arranged in one direction; a signal line connected in common to the source electrodes or drain electrodes of the thin-film transistors corresponding to the plurality of pixels arranged in a direction different from the one direction; a drive means to drive the thin-film transistors by applying a drive signal to the gate line; and a signal reading means connected to the signal line.
