PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polycarboxylic acid-based copolymer by preparing an unsaturated polyalkylene glycol ether-based monomer having a polyalkylene chain with a specific terminal structure, the copolymer having a structure originated from the monomer and is a cement admixture capable of developing high dispersion performance to a cement composition. SOLUTION: The polycarboxylic acid-based copolymer contains a structural unit originated from an unsaturated polyalkylene glycol ether-based monomer and a structural unit originated from an unsaturated carboxylic acid-based monomer as indispensable structural units, wherein the structural unit originated from the unsaturated polyalkylene glycol ether-based monomer is originated from a monomer represented by following general formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>O expresses the same or different 2-18C oxyalkylene group; n is an average additional molar number of oxyalkylene group of 100-300; and R<SP>2</SP>expresses a 1-20C hydrocarbon group).
