<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition exhibiting excellent on-ice performance, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the rubber composition. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The rubber composition is such that 100 pts.wt. of a diene rubber is compounded with 0.3-20 pts.wt. of a green schist's ground product. The pneumatic tire is such as to include a tread made from the rubber composition. In the rubber composition, there can be combinedly used a pulverized product of a porous carbide and a carbide from a plant such as plant-based particles and carbonized bamboo powder.
