PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic carrier capable of exhibiting excellent developability (superior image density and no void) in an NL (normal temperature and low humidity) environment or an HH (high-temperature and high-humidity) environment. SOLUTION: The magnetic carrier comprises a magnetic carrier core containing a magnetic material and a resin coating layer on the surface of the magnetic carrier core. The magnetic carrier has characteristics, such that: (i) the volume resistance (R80) of the carrier under conditions of 80 kPa compression and application of 10 V DC voltage and the volume resistance (R360) under conditions of 360 kPa compression and application of 10 V DC voltage satisfy expression (1): 1.0×10<SP>3</SP>≤R80/R360≤1.0×10<SP>5</SP>; and (ii) the volume resistance (R360) under conditions of 360 kPa compression and application of 10 V DC voltage which ranges from 2.0×10<SP>6</SP>Ωcm to 5.0×10<SP>9</SP>Ωcm.
