PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for forming a gas safely and automatically forming a gas in a simple structure. SOLUTION: In a reaction vessel 10; a gas pressure in a gas storing vessel 30 and a liquid feeding pressure from a water storing vessel 20 act with each other, when the gas pressure of the gas storing vessel 30 becomes relatively larger than the liquid feeding pressure, water in the reaction vessel 10 returns automatically to the water storing vessel 20 side and is brought into non-contact with a solid raw material 2, and the reaction stops, when the gas pressure of the gas storing vessel 30 becomes relatively smaller than the liquid feeding pressure, the solid raw material 2 is brought into contact with a gas by feeding water into the reaction vessel 10 for forming the gas, and the gas of a predetermined pressure is stored in the gas storing vessel 30 by the pressure balance in the reaction vessel 10.
