<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distance image sensor system for accurately generating distance images by a simple structure and a method of generating distance images. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This distance image sensor system generates distance images acquired by measuring a distance to a subject on a picture element-by-picture element basis. This sensor system includes a plurality of light sources, a light emission control means, a distance image generation means, and a distance image selection means. The plurality of light sources are disposed apart from each other to emit light. The control means causes the plurality of light sources to emit light while switching them in order. The generation means takes images correspondingly to the light emission of each of the plurality of light sources to generate a plurality of distance images in which each picture element has a picture element value corresponding to the distance to the image-taken subject correspondingly to the plurality of light sources. The selection means is for selecting a distance image generated by using an image in which the amount of light received is largest in image taking, among the plurality of distance images in the sensor system.
