<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mutant of the chondroitinase gene, a polypeptide derived therefrom and a method for promoting neurological functional recovery after central nervous system injury or disease. <P>SOLUTION: There are disclosed: a chondroitinase mutant gene comprising deletion, substitution or combination thereof in the structural unit, preferably being a deletion mutant of a ripening gene; a mutant chondroitinase encoded by the gene; and the preparation of the mutant. The use of the mutant in a method for promoting the diffusion of therapeutic ingredients into tissues is disclosed.
