<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress engine overspeed while stabilizing control of engine torque. <P>SOLUTION: The controller for a hybrid vehicle calculates a torque instruction value candidate u1 of a generator 2 based on deviation between a generator rotation speed instruction value Rmt and a generator actual rotation speed Rma, and sets a torque limit value as a generator torque instruction value u2 instead of the torque instruction value candidate u1 when the torque instruction value candidate u1 is saturated to the torque limit value.
