<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical member having symbols or characters formed on a functional surface, with respect to the optical member, of which almost all of the area is the functional surface having an optical function; and to provide a method capable of performing lot management or duplication prevention of the optical member by using the symbols or characters. <P>SOLUTION: The optical member includes a plurality of rugged structures having a function of transmitting or reflecting light, on a portion or the whole of a surface thereof, and a plurality of minute structures having an area of ≥4 μm<SP>2</SP>and a depth or height of 1 to 5 μm are arranged in non-functional portions of the rugged structures and have symbols or characters formed thereon.
