<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, a cleaning mechanism, and a cleaning method that suppress deterioration in cleaning performance caused by paper dusts, toners, and foreign substances, such as decomposed toner components, and generation of image noises caused by the deterioration. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A cleaning apparatus has a scraping-off member or an agitating member configured to scrape off or agitate a visualizing material and a fiber body or a power body different from the visualizing material present on a photoreceptor surface, a collecting member configured to store the visualizing material and the fiber body or the powder body different from the visualizing material scraped off or agitated by the scraping-off member or the agitating member, and a removing member located along the photoreceptor surface and at a fixed interval to the photoreceptor surface in a range between the scraping-off member or the agitating member and the collecting member.
