The display device (10) has an optical spectral filter (28) with color filter regions (30, 32), which are equal with respect to number and colors of light of a light generating unit (18). Light emitted from an optical fiber (12) by light ejection structures (20) of the fiber penetrates the filter. A diaphragm element (34) i.e. disk element, has a back-lighting display surface (36) for back-lighting of the light emitted from the structures and passes the filter. An adjusting element (40) e.g. rheostat and sliding potentiometer, moves the filter and diaphragm element relative to each other. The light generating unit comprises two light sources such as LEDs, for emitting blue light and red light.
