Provided is an authentication device which can enhance security by adding the selection order of authentication items to an authentication determination element, and also provided is an authentication method and a program for executing the authentication method on a computer. A user selects a correct image by input sections (11a, 11b). The input sections (11a, 11b) detect on/off of an authentication image selected by the user and sends the authentication image to a control section (12). At first, the input processing section (21) of the control section (12) specifies an image selected from the positional information of a selected image and the display image information stored in a display image information storage section (27). The on/off order of the selected image thus specified is then extracted and stored as selected authentication information in a selected authentication information storage section (25). An authentication determination section (22) compares the selected authentication information stored in the selected authentication information storage section (25) of a storage section (13) with the correct authentication information stored in a correct image DB (26), and determines that the authentication is successful if the selected authentication information matches the correct authentication information.
