<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a patterned paper expressing irregular continuous pattern by the irradiation with a light including ultraviolet rays, and having good printability, and to provide a method for producing the patterned paper. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The patterned paper is produced by mixing an aqueous solution and/or a dispersion of a fluorescent agent with a mucilaginous agent to thicken the liquid, adding the resultant liquid onto a wet paper on wires of a paper machine by any one method selected from dropping, transportation and spraying, and diffusing the added liquid by regulating the shaking action of the paper machine. Alternatively, the paper is produced by adding a cationic material into a raw material slurry for producing a base paper, adding the aqueous solution and/or the dispersion of the fluorescent agent to which a water-soluble polymer having an anionic group is added onto a wet paper on the wires of the paper machine by any one method selected from the dropping, the transportation and the spraying, and diffusing the added liquid by regulating the shaking action of the paper machine.
