<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress variation in compression ratio of an internal combustion engine having a compression ratio variable mechanism. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A compression ratio control device for an internal combustion engine 1 has a compression ratio variable mechanism which can change the compression ratio. The compression ratio control device includes: a target compression ratio calculation means (S1) calculating a target compression ratio depending on operational statuses; a reference value calculation means (S2) calculating a drive torque reference value of a drive device 51 from a deviation of an actual compression ratio from a target compression ratio; load torque calculation means (S3, S4) calculating load torque acting on a control shaft 25 depending on operational statuses; first target drive torque calculation means (S5, S6) calculating target drive torque of the drive device 51, by adding a drive torque correction value canceling out the load torque to the drive torque reference value; and a compression ratio change means (S7) applying the target drive torque to the control shaft 25 by the drive device 51 to rotate the control shaft 25.
