PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold which ensures satisfactory machining precision and is used for molding a plastic component of which the processing cost is reduced, and to provide a method of manufacturing the mold. SOLUTION: There is provided the mold 1 where the surface of a base material 2 is formed into a predetermined shape by an electric discharge machining, wherein a machining deteriorated layer 3 due to the electric discharge machining is not removed and remains as it is on the surface of the base material 2 and, when a stress in the compression direction is added to the machining deteriorated layer 3, a residual stress in the compression direction is generated.
