<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt conveying apparatus that rotates an endless belt accurately, and an image forming apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A color laser printer 1 rotationally drives a drive roller 6b by a driving motor 7f to rotate a conveyor belt 6a stretched over the drive roller 6b and driven rollers 6c, 6d, and detects the rotation of the driven roller 6c by an encoder 21. A CPU 41 controls the rotation of the driving motor 6f through a driver 42 based on the detection result to control the rotation of the driven roller 6c detected by the encoder 21, to a specified rotating speed. A reference position mark KM formed at a reference position of the conveyor belt 6a is detected by a magnetic sensor 31 to acquire a variation value of a driven roller rotating speed value for correcting a driving error due to the thickness of the conveyor belt 6a, and the driving error of rotation control of the driving motor 6f by the CPU 41 is corrected based on the variation value.
