PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage system for making volume capacity proper among file management computers sharing a storage device. SOLUTION: In this storage system, a capacity management computer 120 acquires statistical information, such as, access history from the file management computers 110 and the storage device 180. The capacity management computer 120 executes capacity optimization processing for the storage device, according to a designated date. The capacity management computer 120 calculates optimum capacity for each file system, based on the statistical information by reallocating free capacity of volumes according to a prescribed standard (e.g. a capacity consuming speed); sends reduction instruction of the file system to the file management computer 110b that manages the file system of a capacity reduction target; sends a volume capacity change instruction to the storage device 180 having the volume; and sends an expansion instruction of the file system to the file management computer 110a managing the file system of a capacity increase target according to expanded volume capacity.
