PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyfluoroalkyl alcohol or a polyfluoroalkyliodide, a precursor compound of (meth)acrylic acid derivative of the compound, which is a compound having a perfluoroalkyl group having not more than 6 carbon atoms, said to be low in bioaccumulation potential and used effectively as a surfactant, or a feed-stock monomer of water/oil repellant etc., and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This polyfluoroalkyliodide is represented by the general formula C<SB>n</SB>F<SB>2n+1</SB>(CH<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>a</SB>(CF<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>b</SB>(CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>c</SB>I [I] (wherein n is an integer of 1-6, a is an integer of 1-4, b is an integer of 1-3, c is an integer of 1-3 and the adjacent groups of C<SB>n</SB>F<SB>2n+1</SB>group are a CH<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>group). This polyfluoroalkyliodide [I] is produced by addition reaction of ethylene to the iodine-terminated compound represented by the general formula C<SB>n</SB>F<SB>2n+1</SB>(CH<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>a</SB>(CF<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>b</SB>I [II].
