Method and navigation device for determining probable journey times

The navigation method involves classifying road network of digital road map into road sections, each of which is allocated one corresponding road category assigned an average speed in speed table. Estimated route travel time (7) is calculated from lengths of road sections of routes and average speeds stored in the table. User speeds computed by speed determining unit can additionally be included in speed table. The speed table is classified into temporal classes for one road category. The temporal class is respectively allocated separate average speeds a function of weekday and/or time of day.
