PURPOSE: An internal combustion engine with a variable valve gear is provided to efficiently mix vaporized fuel with air because swirls are generated when a suction valve is initially opened. CONSTITUTION: An internal combustion engine with a variable valve gear comprises first and second suction valves, a cam phase varying unit, and a controller. The first and second suction valves are powered using first and second suction cams. The cam phase varying unit varies the phase of the second suction cam. The controller controls the cam phase varying unit so that the opening time of the second suction valve can be overlapped with the opening time of an exhaust valve.
