NOVEL USE OF DRG2 GENE

PURPOSE: A DRG2 gene is provided to increase lipid accumulation and adipocyte size and to be used as a target gene for diagnosing or treating metabolic disases. CONSTITUTION: A composition for diagnosing metabolic diseases contains a probe or primer with complementary sequence to a DRG2(developmentally regulated GTP-binding protein 2) gene nucleotide sequence. The probe or primer comprises sequences of sequence numbers 1 and 2. The metabolic diseases are obesity, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, artery scleroma or steatosis. A method for screening a material for treating or preventing metabolic diseases comprises: a step of contacting a sample to a cell containing the DRG2 gene or protein; a step of measuring the amount thereof or activation, and gene expression level of DRG2; and a step of determining whether the material is effective in treating or preventing metabolic diseases.
