Method and computer program for operating an internal combustion engine, and control unit

The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine which provides automatic activation/deactivation of an engine based on conditions measured when the vehicle is at a standstill. The method allows storage of data relating to the activation/deactivation conditions which are then used to diagnose the control of the engine. Also disclosed is a computer program for implementing the method, an electronic storage medium storing the program for carrying out the method and an engine control unit programmed with the method. The method makes it possible to optimise the efficiency of the engine in a vehicle-specific fashion or to provide information on the driving behaviour of the driver.
