An emulsifiable composition suitable for lubricating textiles comprises eicosane and an amine salt of an acid phosphate of a C8 or higher fatty alcohol. The composition may also contain an amine salt of a C8 or higher fatty acid and/or an emulsifying agent. The amines are preferably tertiary hydroxy amines, e.g. dibutylethanolamine, triethanolamine, diethylethanolamine and triisopropanolamine, but non-substituted tertiary amines, e.g. N,N-diethylcyclohexylamine, and secondary amines, e.g. diethylamine and diethanolamine are also suitable. The acidic phosphate esters are derived from C8 or higher alcohols, e.g. stearyl, oleyl or cetyl (n-octadecyl, octadecenyl, and hexadecyl) alcohols or mixtures thereof, and phosphorus pentoxide, tetroxide or pentachloride and preferably contain between 1 and 2 alcohol radicals per phosphorus atom. Examples of suitable fatty acids are stearic and oleic acids and suitable emulsifying agents are polyethylene oxide derivatives. Examples are given of compositions prepared from the following constituents: (i) eicosane, phosphorus pentoxide, oleyl alcohol, oleic acid, and dibutylethanolamine; (ii) as (i) plus a nonyl phenoxy ether of polyethylene glycol; (iii) eicosane, phosphorus pentoxide, stearyl alcohol, stearic acid, triethanolamine and a nonyl phenoxy ether of polyethylene glycol; and (iv) eicosane, the triethanolamine ester of stearic acid, the triethanolamine salt of stearyl phosphates; all of which are emulsified with water. |
