PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for processing an audio signal are provided to output a mono signal and a stereo signal from a down-mix signal. CONSTITUTION: A demultiplexer(110) receives an object information and a down-mix signal. According to an output mode, an information generating unit(120) uses the object information to create down-mix processing information and multi-channel information. If the down-mix processing information is created, a down-mix processing unit(130) creates an output signal by applying the down-mix processing information to the down-mix signal.
