The method involves transporting upper and lower pieces (2a, 2b) of posters on an assembly table (6), and positioning the pieces by locating positions of the pieces using an optical detector (26) e.g. electronic camera, and by moving the pieces using a main handling device (12) moving above the table. The detector with a field of vision (26a) is oriented toward bottom. Marks (37, 39) of the pieces oriented toward top are detected by the detector. One of the pieces is moved by the handling device until the marks regain a preset set point position without movement of the other piece. An independent claim is also included for a system for assembling posters, comprising an assembly table.
