A communications method for use in a group communications environment including an end node and an access node is disclosed. The method comprises transmitting from a wireless interface module having a connection to an element in the end node to the access node over a wireless communications link a group membership information change request signal requesting a change in group membership and operating a group communication module to monitor for receipt by the wireless interface module of a response determined by the access node to the group membership information change request signal. Also disclosed is the end node for use in a group communications environment comprising means for transmitting a group membership information change request signal requesting a change in group membership; means for receiving a response determined by an access node to a group membership information change request signal previously transmitted by the means for transmitting; and means for detecting a response to a group membership information change request signal which was previously transmitted by the means for transmitting. The end node is a member of zero, one, or more multicast groups at any point in time. |
