The method involves determining characteristics of a printing hardware (1005) of an original document. A mark permitting differentiation of the original document from a copy is determined based on the characteristics of the printing hardware to be used for printing the mark on the document. The mark is printed with the printing hardware to create the original document. A boundary value to be used by a copy detection hardware (1010) is determined for discriminating the original document from the copy of the original document based on a print of the mark.
