FIELD: machine building. ^ SUBSTANCE: ratchet mechanism of free travel consists of ratchet gear and raceway. Wedging bodies in form of plates are installed in the raceway on axes. Sleeves with inserted blocks are attached to the plates; the blocks are released with a preliminary compressed spring. Two disks are fastened to the ratchet gear. Working surface of each disk is inclined at angle under condition of equality of moments of friction forces and weight of plates. Working surface of blocks has a wedge or conical shape. ^ EFFECT: increased service life of mechanism, reduced noise and smooth movement of wedging of working bodies of wedging. ^ 3 dwg
