PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating soot exhausted from an internal combustion engine, capable of utilizing the soot at low cost. SOLUTION: The method for treating soot exhausted from an internal combustion engine is provided, being the technology for the soot to be converted into a fuel. Specifically, the technology comprises: soot is recovered from an internal combustion engine exhaust gas and converted into a fuel, and the resultant fuel is reused: for example, (1) soot and coal are mixed together, and the mixture is reused as a pulverized coal-fired boiler fuel; (2) soot and fossil liquid fuel are mixed together, and the mixture is reused as a liquid fuel-fired boiler fuel; or (3) soot is put to a solidification treatment, and the resultant solidified product is reused as a solid fuel.
