PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an impact on display quality even when response characteristics of a pixel fluctuates in displaying an intermediate grayscale by bringing the pixel to an ON state or to an OFF state for each of a plurality of subfields. SOLUTION: A frame is divided into subfields sf1-sf16. Of these subfields, the subfields of the first category (sf1, sf5, sf9, and sf13) are smaller than the other subfields in width. When acquired response characteristic data indicate that the response speed is slow, the width of the subfields of the first category is made longer than usual. The width of the subfields of the second category (sf2, sf6, sf10 and sf14) and the width of the subfields of the third category (sf3, sf7, sf11, and sf15) are also made longer than usual, but, conversely, the width of the subfields of the fourth category (sf4, sf8, sf12, and sf16) is made shorter.
