<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thickener which uniformizes the thick sludge discharge amount of a discharge portion of the thickener and enables the secondary addition of a flocculant. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A thickening chamber 18 is formed with an outer cylinder screen 13 and a screw shaft 15 wound with a screw blade 14. A dam plate 33 formed with an opening dam 34 is fixed to the screw shaft 15 in a discharge portion of the thickening chamber 18. A dam height t of the opening dam 34 is gradually increased from a predetermined angle α in the rotation direction from the end edge 14a of the screw blade 14 winding around the screw shaft 15, and a plurality of discharge ports 22 etc. are opened in an outlet outer cylinder flange 17 fitted to the outer cylinder screen, whereby the discharge pulsation of thick sludge can be prevented to uniformize the discharge amount.
