PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially suitable method for producing an optically active (R or S)-3-aminoglutaric acid monoester compound having high optical purity in high yield and high selectivity from a 3-aminoglutaric acid diester compound by a simple operation using an easily available hydrolase in a short reaction time at a decreased enzyme/substrate ratio. SOLUTION: The method for producing an optically active (R or S)-3-aminoglutaric acid monoester compound includes the selective hydrolysis reaction of only one ester group of a 3-aminoglutaric acid diester compound in the presence of a lipase derived from Candida antarctica.
