<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die cushion device, a method of controlling the die cushion device and a press with which pressed products having stable quality are manufactured. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the die cushion device 100 for adding cushion force by which a workpiece W is upward energized to the periphery of a workpiece W corresponding to press force which is transmitted to the workpiece W when pressing the workpiece W with a press 101, the device includes: a cushion pad 11; an air cylinder 13 and an upper energizing device which are provided on a supporting rod 12 connected to the cushion pad 11 and with which the cushion pad 11 is upward energized through the supporting rod 12; an air tank 19 which is opened to spaces where are divided with the cylinder and a piston of the air cylinder 13 through an air pipe 8 to the air cylinder 13; a valve 9 provided on the air pipe 8; and a drive source for driving the upper energizing device.
