<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control system making a user hardly notice a change of a combustion sound when the combustion state of an engine changes. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The engine control system includes a combustion state switching means capable of switching the combustion state of the engine between a normal combustion state and a specific combustion state with an A/F value smaller than the A/F value of the normal combustion state, and a sound pressure setting means for setting the sound pressure of the combustion sound in the specific combustion state to be larger than the sound pressure of the combustion sound in the normal combustion state.
