PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively observe a necessary image, while suppressing useless radio transmission and power consumption. SOLUTION: A capsule type endoscope 10 includes: a light source 14; an imaging element 16; a transmission circuit 24; and an SWR measurement circuit 26. When a power source is supplied, a stand-by mode without performing a photographing operation is set, and a dummy signal different from an image signal is originated by a feeble radio wave output without starting the light source 14, the imaging element 16, and a modulation circuit 22. When an SWR value is equal to or more than a threshold, the stand-by mode is changed-over into a photographing mode, thereby starting the light source 14, the imaging element 16, and the modulation circuit 22, raising the radio wave output, and then, transmitting the image signal by radio wave. When the SWR value becomes smaller than the threshold after the insertion to a body, the capsule type endoscope 10 is regarded to be discharged to the outside of the body.
