The engine (1) has exhaust valves (3, 4) for withdrawing exhaust gas from a combustion chamber. The valves are held in a temporarily opened position using a hydraulic valve auxiliary control unit (22) of an engine brake device (2). A hydraulic valve play compensation mechanism (45) for the valves is integrated in connection mechanisms (5-7) that are connected to an oil circuit. An oil channel (59) is formed between the control unit and the mechanism (45) for an oil supply to the control unit. The channel is closed by a closure unit (63) to effect compensation of valve play of one valve. |
