Disclosed is a method of manufacturing copper-based catalysts with excellent catalytic activity, as well as markedly superior durability and good repeatability. A method of manufacturing copper-based catalysts that consist of a metal oxide, of which the essential constituent is copper oxide, comprises the following steps: (1) a step whereby an acid metal salt solution that contains copper and a precipitant solution are brought into contact and a slurry solution that contains a precipitate of a catalyst precursor is obtained, and (2) a step in which the slurry solution and a cleaning fluid are brought into continuous contact, and an essentially suspended state is maintained to clean the precipitate.
