PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately display whole character message in a recognizable form when receiving the character message mixing alphanumeric characters and kana characters by a receiver with a display unit which can not display the Kana characters. SOLUTION: The receiver is provided with a processing means which discriminates whether received coded character data are character codes corresponding to alphanumeric characters or character codes corresponding to non-alphanumeric characters, outputs character codes corresponding to the alphanumeric characters when they are character codes corresponding to the alphanumeric characters, and converts and outputs the character codes corresponding to the non-alphanumeric codes to character codes corresponding to the alphanumeric codes or combination of character codes based on a predetermined conversion rule. The display part is composed to display a character pattern corresponding to the alphanumeric characters responding to the character codes output from the processing means.
