PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline earth metal aluminate phosphor having superior heat resistance and durability against vacuum ultraviolet rays, ultraviolet rays, etc., and to provide a method of producing the same. SOLUTION: The alkaline earth metal aluminate phosphor for display contains: barium and/or strontium (a); magnesium (b); aluminum (c); bivalent europium (d) as an activator; oxygen; and at least one kind of element (e) selected from a group consisting of indium, tungsten, niobium, bismuth, molybdenum, tantalum, thallium and lead, wherein the content of the element (e) is within the range of 0.0001 to 0.01 mole per mole of the aluminum element.
