The method involves carrying out a continuous torque comparison between an allowable torque and an additional torque within a vehicle control device (10). The allowable torque is continuously compared with reference torques for two individual drives such as an internal combustion engine (34) and an electric drive (36), of a hybrid drive (32). A total allowable torque for the two individual drives of the hybrid drive is determined in a computation stage. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle control device for executing a method for controlling a hybrid drive.
