PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique that efficiently and stably performs transmission by control based on the time required for conversion processing when converting a file to be transmitted to transmission data and transmitting the data. SOLUTION: A facsimile apparatus performs processing for converting a document file stored in a hard disc to rendering data before receiving transmission instructions from a user and measures the time required for the conversion processing (at S503). Then, based on the results of the measurement, in order to transmit a document file for which the time required for the conversion processing exceeds a predetermined value, the apparatus performs control to transmit transmission data by starting communication with a transmission destination after performing the conversion processing (at S505). In order to transmit a document file for which the time required for the conversion processing does not exceed the predetermined value, the apparatus performs control to transmit transmission data by performing the conversion processing after start of communication with a transmission destination (at S506).
