SOLUTION: This control device of an engine includes: a feedback (FB) injection control execution means 47 for adjusting the fuel injection amount Finj of the engine based on the air-fuel ratio AF1 of the exhaust gas; an open-loop (OL) injection control execution means 48 for adjusting the fuel injection amount Finj without being based on the air-fuel ratio F1 of the exhaust gas; an automatic stop/re-startup means 41 for automatically stopping and automatically re-starting up the engine; a temperature index value correction means 44 for subtraction-correcting an exhaust system temperature index value CT which is correlated to the temperatures of exhaust systems while the engine is automatically stopped, an injection control mode selection means 52 for controlling the feedback injection control execution means 47 and the open-loop injection control execution means 48; and a sensor activity determination means 51 for determining that an exhaust gas air-fuel ratio sensor 28 is in the active state when the engine is automatically re-started up and the temperature index value CT surpasses an exhaust system temperature threshold CTth.
