Provided is a method for producing a fatty acid alkyl ester, including: step 1 of adding water and one or more surfactants selected from an anionic surfactant, a cationic surfactant, and an amphoteric surfactant to a crude fatty acid alkyl ester, followed by stirring and mixing, thereby obtaining a mixture containing aggregates; and step 2 of separating the aggregates from the mixture obtained in step 1, thereby obtaining a fatty acid alkyl ester in which the removal ratio of sterol glycosides is 60% or more.
