<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen occurrence of downtime that is a burden on a user and color variation of color toner by suppressing the number and frequency of forming patch toner images of transparent toner to be low. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a color image forming means for forming an image by using color toner; a transparent image forming means for forming an image by using transparent toner; a density detection means for detecting density of a color test image formed by the color image forming means and density of a transparent test image formed by the transparent image forming means; a correction means for correcting an image forming condition by the color image forming means and an image forming condition by the transparent image forming means based on the detected density of the color test image and the detected density of the transparent test image; and a control means for controlling the color image forming means and the transparent image forming means so that the frequency of forming the transparent test images may be less than the frequency of forming the color test images in a mode in which the images are formed by using the color image forming means and the transparent image forming means.
