<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an axial load application apparatus which enables accurate evaluation of the rigidity of a sample bearing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The axial load application apparatus 10 includes an axial force generating device 11 which generates an axial load Fa to be applied to a rotating shaft 2, a rolling bearing 12 for axial force transmission of which the inner ring is fixed to the rotating shaft 2, and an axial force transmitting mechanism 14 which transmits an axial force from the axial force generating device 11 to the rotating shaft 2 without radially restricting the rolling bearing 12 for the axial force transmission.
